JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team fell 15-6 to Mary Hardin-Baylor in their series finale on Saturday after splitting their Friday doubleheader with the team from Belton, Texas.
The visitors took an early lead in the game scoring a run in the top of the 1st inning. The Cru then added three runs in the 2nd inning to take a 5-0 advantage. The Blazers hit back in the bottom of the 3rd when they scored a pair of runs, first on an RBI single by
Kyle McLaughlin and the second on a subsequent RBI base hit by
Nathan Herron.
Mary Hardin-Baylor was quick to answer though hitting back for a run in the 4th and two runs in the 5th. In the 6th Belhaven was able to get a run back on a fielder's choice that scored
Chase Kitchens but despite having bases loaded with no outs, that was the only run Belhaven was able to get.
In the top of the 6th the Cru got a solo home run to make it a 9-3 lead but Belhaven cut the deficit in half with a three-run frame in the bottom of the 6th.
Gabe Inman opened with the scoring with an RBI double and then came around to score on an RBI single from
Matthew Charbonnet. The inning was capped off on an RBI double from
Nick Lucido.
Both teams were held scoreless through the 7th and 8th innings but the visitors broke open the game in the 9th with a six run frame including a pair of home runs.
Belhaven returns to action on Tuesday when they resume the Cowboy Maloney series against Millsaps. First pitch is set for 6 PM.
