JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Softball team was beaten on Monday for the first time since February 11th after falling to #8 Birmingham-Southern by a 6-4 final scoreline.
The Blazers were the team to take an early lead scoring a run in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI double by Freshman
Ellie Jones that scored
Marlee Blackwell. Belhaven would add two runs to their lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning after getting a pair of back-to-back two out hits from
Abby Trahan and
Marlee Blackwell.Â
Belhaven led 3-0 going into the 3rd inning but the Panthers were able to cut the lead back down to a run on a two-out hit that scored a pair of runs. In the 4th inning the visitors took the lead on a big, four-run frame that saw them take a 6-3 lead over BU.Â
The Blazers were able to get a run back in the bottom of the 5th inning when
Ellie Jones once against delivered a timely RBI double but in the end were not able to muster the comeback in the non-conference matchup.Â
With the loss the Blazers fall to 18-2 on the season and now hold a 6-2 record against Top 25 opponents. The loss also snaps a 17-game win streak for Belhaven.Â

The Blazers return to action this weekend when they travel to Belton, Texas to take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a matchup of the current first and second ranked teams in the ASC standings. First pitch on Friday is set for 3PM.
