JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team was beaten in their series finale against the University of St. Thomas on Saturday by a final scoreline of 7-2 at Trustmark Park.
It was the Celts who took an early lead in the contest taking advantage of a throwing error in the 2nd inning to grab their first run before a sac fly made it a two-run UST lead. In the bottom of the 3rd Belhaven got a run back when
Matthew Charbonnet scored on a base hit from
Hunter White that cut the UST lead in half.
The Belhaven bullpen then kept the Celts off the scoreboard until the 6th inning where a sac fly restored their two-run advantage before adding another run in the 7th to lead 3-1. The Blazers were able to cut it back to a one-run deficit in the 8th on a sac fly from
Caleb Whittle with the bases loaded but trailed entering the final frame where St. Thomas was able to put the game away with four runs in the 9th.
