ALPINE, Texas – The Belhaven Women's Basketball team was beaten on Thursday 91-60 falling to the Sul Ross State Lobos in ASC action.
 
The hosts shot the ball well throughout the game and took an early lead in the contest pulling away from the Blazers with an impressive 29-6 scoring run across a 10-minute span between the first and second quarters. 
 
The Lobos continued their strong shooting while also fending off any Belhaven momentum in the first half to take a 51-29 lead into the half.
 
In the second half the Blazers worked to close the gap but Sul Ross kept their foot on the gas pulling away from BU and taking the victory.
 
Belhaven was led by Xhiir Burgess who finished 21 points on 9-18 shooting from the field to go with 6 rebounds and four blocks. Shomaria Overton finished with 16 points in the game and seven rebounds while Jakiya Jackson put up 10 points, six rebounds and four steals.
 
The Blazers will look now to their contest against Howard Payne University on Saturday. Tip off in Brownwood, Texas is set for 1 PM.
