JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team picked up their first win of the season on Friday after
Nathan Herron delivered a walk-off base hit to seal a 5-4 win over LeTourneau University.
The opening game of the series started with both pitchers on top for their respective teams setting down the sides in order in each of the first two innings. It was the visitors who struck first though touching up
Brett Sanchez for a run in the third inning before adding a second run in the fourth. Sanchez quickly quieted the YellowJackets at the plate though and was able to get run support later in the contest.
In the bottom of the 6th inning the Blazers picked up a run on an RBI single from
Adam Leonard that scored
Kyle McLaughlin from second base. Belhaven continued to heat up in the home half of the 7th inning picking up a pair of runs with two outs in the frame to take a 3-2 lead.
Hunter White reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a balk before scoring to tie the game on an RBI single from
Kyle McLaughlin. McLaughlin then advanced to second on a balk and came around to give the Blazers the lead on a base hit from
Caleb Whittle.
LeTourneau answered quickly though scoring a run in the top of the 8th inning and threatening to retake the lead before
Luke Miller came in to reliever starter
Brett Sanchez and picked up an inning ending strikeout. However the YellowJackets did regain the lead in the top of the 9th inning and went to the final frame with a 4-3 advantage.
In the bottom of the 9th
Hunter White reached with one out on a hit by pitch and advanced to third after a pair of back-to-back walks issued to McLaughlin and Whittle. After a fielder's choice saw White thrown out at the plate it was
Nathan Herron who delivered in a full-count with a line drive that got over the head of the right fielder and scored a pair of runs.
