BELTON, Texas – Belhaven Men's Basketball fell on the road at #9 Mary Hardin-Baylor 86-73 on Thursday.
The matchup, which opened the Blazers' final road trip of the regular season, started as a close affair with Belhaven taking an early lead over the Cru. The hosts took an early lead out of the gate, but the Blazers showed off their hot shooting from the floor and took their first lead at the 16:37 mark of the first half.
The Blazers then extended their lead out to a nine-point advantage just before the midway point of the first half. BU continued to lead and with just over five minutes to go in the first half the Blazers opened a 34-24 lead, the first double-digit advantage of the matchup.
Belhaven's outstanding shooting from the field in the first half had them in front 41-33 at the break after finishing the opening half over 50% from the field and 63.6% from three.
The script was flipped in the second half however with the hosts jumping out to a 6-0 run out of the break. The Cru continued to push and retook the lead just under six minutes into the second half. UMHB was able to pull away from the Blazers late in the game leading by as many as 17 as Belhaven's upset bid came up short.
Luke Couch led the Blazers with 19 points, five rebounds and five steals while
Arother Ratliff finished with 18 points and seven rebounds which topped Belhaven.
Matthew McMillan added 14 points while shooting 4-9 from three in the game.
Belhaven will look to bounce back as they close their regular season on the road at Concordia University in Austin, Texas. Tip off against the Tornados is set for 3 PM.
