Blazers Cruise to Conference Win Over Agnes Scott

DECATUR, Ga. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team grabbed their first win in the Collegiate Conference of the South on Friday as they cruised to victory over Agnes Scott.

Belhaven led wire to wire in the game jumping out to an early advantage with an 8-0 run out of the gate. Belhaven continued to dominate on both ends of the floor quickly pulling out to a double-digit lead and taking a 19-6 lead to close the first quarter.

Opening up the second quarter the Blazers continued to fire on all cylinders offensively and jumped out to an 18-point lead within three minutes of the start of the quarter. With just over 5 minutes to go in the half Belhaven grabbed their first 20 point lead when Ebony Gayden put them up 33-12.

In the third quarter the Blazers continued to fly and pull away from the Scotties. With just under 5 minutes left in the third quarter the Blazers worked their way out to a 30-point lead on a made three by Shantashia John. As the game came to a close in the fourth quarter Belhaven was able to keep the hosts at bay and secured their first win in the inaugural CCS campaign with a 74-53 victory.

Ebony Gayden led the way for the Blazers with a game-high 20 points in just 15 minutes on the court. She also pulled down nine rebounds and grabbed three steals. Shantashia John finished with 16 points on 7-8 shooting in eight minutes of action and Hayle Poindexter nearly finished with a double-double as she posted eight points and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

Belhaven will look to keep the momentum going in a quick turnaround as they play the second end of a back-to-back in Georgia traveling to Macon to take on Wesleyan. Tip off between the Blazers and Wolves is set for 1 PM Central time.
