JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University Men's Basketball team earned a 72-60 victory over the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers in a non-conference matchup on Friday evening. With the win, the Blazers improve to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Blazers and Chargers exchanged buckets and possessions to open up the contest, but the visitors held the 15-13 advantage after the first media timeout. The Chargers held on to the lead for the majority of the first half as SBC took the 33-32 lead going into the halftime break.
The Blazers regained the lead early on in the second half to bring the score to 39-38 at the 17:10 mark. Belhaven's offense caught a spark and went on a 22-3 run over the next 10 minutes to take the commanding lead over the Chargers. The Blazers did not trail the rest of the game as Belhaven picked up a 72-60 victory over Southeastern Baptist.
Jordan Marshall led the Blazers with 29 points and went 11-for-12 from the charity stripe. Defensively,
Neal Terry tied his record for blocks in a game with seven and grabbed seven boards.
Todd Larkin shot 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc in the win over SBC.
As a team, the Blazers shot 40 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line.
The Blazers will return to action on Thursday, December 29 against Millsaps College at Millsaps. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
