JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Volleyball team was beaten 3-2 by LaGrange on Wednesday after a late rally by the Panthers sent them past the Blazers.
Belhaven took control of the midweek matchup early on after battling in a back and forth first set. Belhaven would pull away from the visitors in the opening set with a late surge and took a one set lead after one over LaGrange.
The Blazers would go on to take a stronger hold on the Collegiate Conference of the South match when they took the second set of the night as well. After LaGrange pulled even at 17-17 in the second set the Blazers would go on an 8-3 run and looked primed to take the match.
LaGrange was resilient though and in a back and forth third set, held off the Blazers who tried to put together a late push. LaGrange then would go on to take the fourth set as well, once again trading blows with the Blazers and despite trailing 20-17 at one point, which set up a decisive fifth set.
With the momentum in their favor, the Panthers would go on to clinch the CCS matchup with a strong showing in the fifth and final set.
On the day for Belhaven,
Jeslian Vazquez and
Ellie Jones each led the team with 11 kills while
Miriam Ateca provided an impressive 32 assists. Jones also tallied three blocks while
