MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Belhaven Men's Soccer team came up just short in their late comeback bid at Maryville College falling to the Scots, 3-2, on Saturday as the Blazers continue their conference slate.
Maryville opened the scoring just past the half hour mark with a sharp finish that put the hosts up 1-0. Just three minutes later they would go on to add a second as they grabbed a goal in the 34
th minute and led 2-0.
Belhaven trailed 2-0 at the half and found themselves down 3-0 just six minutes into the second period when Maryville grabbed a 52
nd minute for their third of the day.
The Blazers sparked to life from that point as they tried to overturn the three-goal deficit. Christian Hernandez found the Belhaven breakthrough in the 68
th minute with a goal assisted by
Lex Rogers.
Belhaven then got a second late on when
Igor Rudolph snagged his fourth goal of the season in the 87
th minute on an assist by
Aleksander Harris. With just three minutes left of play, Belhaven chased an equalizer and ran out of time suffering their second conference defeat of the season.
On the day, Belhaven totaled 15 total shots and six on target while Maryville finished with 16 total shots and 10 on frame. Blazers' goalkeeper
Max Rudolph tallied seven saves while
Igor Rudolph and Christian Hernandez each led Belhaven with two shots on goal.
Belhaven will return to action on Wednesday, October 5
th when they host Millsaps College at 6:30 PM.
