JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team was beaten on Thursday in an ASC matchup by UT Dallas in an 80-70 final scoreline.
It was the Blazers who started the contest on the front foot jumping out to an early 8-0 lead over the Comets in the first couple minutes of play. UT Dallas found their stride quickly though and took an 11-10 lead, their first lead of the game, at the 15:26 mark of the first half. The two teams traded baskets throughout the first half but the Comets were able to pull in front by as many as 11 points with a series of small scoring runs.
Belhaven was able to trim the Comets' lead back down to 47-43 but strong three-point shooting by the visitors helped them take a game-high 17-point lead with just over eight minutes to play. In the final minutes of the game, BU was able to chip away at the deficit but ultimately fell short losing 80-70 against UTD.
The Blazers were led by
Luke Couch who finished with 16 points and three assists including going 10-10 from the free throw line.
Arother Ratliff finished with 15 points after 6-9 shooting from the field.
Matthew McMillan was the other Belhaven Blazer in double figures with 12 points on 4-8 shooting from beyond the arc as he moves into sole possession of 4th place on the list of BU's all-time made three-point leaders with 132 in his career.
Belhaven finished the game shooting just over 41% from the field and 33.3% from three. The Blazers finished the game shooting 87.5% from the free throw line and picked up 29 points from their bench.
Belhaven will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host LeTourneau University at 3PM.
