JACKSON, Miss. - Brett Sanchez, pitcher for the Belhaven Baseball team, was named to the D3Baseball.com Preseason All-America Third Team on Tuesday for the first time in his career. 

Sanchez, who has helped to anchor the Blazers starting rotation for the past two seasons, is coming off a career year in 2021 where he went 9-2 across 12 starts and posted a team best 2.27 ERA. Sanchez accumulated 95.1 innings of work which also led the Belhaven pitching staff and allowed just a .203 batting average against while racking up 90 strikeouts which topped the American Southwest Conference. 

The Slidell, La. native also pulled in multiple in-season and postseason awards throughout the year. Sanchez earned ASC Pitcher of the Week recognition three times in 2021 while also earning the NCBWA Division III Pitcher of the Month award in February after going 3-0 across three starts allowing no earned runs and striking out 26 opponent hitters. Sanchez was named to the ABCA DIII All-West Region First Team this past spring and was also named to the D3Baseball.com All-West Region First Team.

Sanchez and the Blazers open up their 2022 season on February 11th when they travel to Marshall, Texas to face ETBU in a three-game conference series.
