ALPINE, Texas – The Belhaven University women's soccer team defeated the Sul Ross State University Lobos 4-1 in American Southwest Conference play on Thursday. With the win, the Blazers improve to 6-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. 

The Blazers took the lead on the Lobos, when Kyla Shaw found the back of the net in the 20th minute for her fifth goal of the season to make the score 1-0. The Blazers and Lobos exchanged possessions for the rest of the half to bring the score to 1-0 at the halftime break.  

Lizbeth Eslava made it 2-0 in favor of the Blazers, recording her second goal on the season to bring the score to 2-0. The visitors responded quickly to get a goal back in the 64th minute to cut the lead to 2-1. Eslava scored another goal seconds late off of a pass from Kyla Shaw to extend the Blazers lead to 3-1. The Blazers would push the lead to three goals after Sybil Roberson scored in the 85th minute to seal the 4-1 victory for the Green and Gold. 

Belhaven posted 14 total shots with 12 of them being on-goal, while holding the Lobo to just five shots on goal. Eslava led the Blazers with two goals while Shaw and Roberson added a goal apiece. Julianne Wilson played all 90 minutes in goal for the Blazers and registered four saves in the match. 

The Blazers will return to the field on Saturday, October 2 in a conference matchup against the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
