JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Blazers baseball team took the first of two games against the Louisiana College Wildcats on Friday as the team wraps up the regular season portion of their 2021 schedule. Belhaven took the first game by a score of 10-1 but dropped the nightcap to the Wildcats 16-3.
GAME ONE
In the first game the Blazers were able to capitalize on a big bottom of the 3rd inning. Belhaven struck for nine runs in the frame on five hits and a trio of Louisiana College errors. The scoring started when
Hunter White tripled early in the frame to score a pair of runs. White would come around to score shortly after when
Nick Lucido reached via an error.Â
The Blazers ould continue to attack with
Trip Benson reaching on an error before coming around to score on a
Reed Bolton base hit. The Blazers would cap off the big inning with a three run home run courtesy of
Caleb Whittle.Â
Leading 9-0 after three innings, the visitors would get a run back in the top of the fourth inning but Belhaven would erase that run in the home half of the same frame. The final run of the game for Belhaven came of a
Nick Lucido double that scored
Evan Moore.Â
In the win, the Blazers were led by a strong start from
Beau Louviere. The right-hander went 5.2 innings and allowed just one run on four hits. Louviere racked up seven strikeouts on his way to his fourth win of the season.Â
At the plate, the Blazers produced seven hits which included a two-hits day for
Caleb Whittle. Whittle finished the game 2-3 with 3 RBI and a pair of runs scored. Hunter white and
Nick Lucido also had multi-RBI games to help lead the Blazers to the win.Â
GAME TWO
The visitors would even up the series in the second game of the doubleheader. In the nightcap, Louisiana College jumped out to an early lead striking for a total of six runs across the first two innings.Â
Belhaven would get a pair of runs back in the bottom of the second starting with an RBI single from
Kyle McLaughlin. Shortly after,
Reed Bolton scored on a passed ball and brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Wildcats.Â
Belhaven's comeback attempt would prove to be brief however with Louisiana College striking for a pair of runs in the 6th inning before putting up five runs in the 7th inning. The visitors would add three more runs to their lead in the 8th inning to seal the 16-3 win.
In the game, the Blazers were led at the plate by
Evan Moore who finished 2-3 with an RBI. On the mound,
David Hall had a strong relief appearance throwing 2.2 innings and keeping the Wildcats scoreless on a pair of hits. Hall also racked up six strikeouts.Â
The two teams will face off again on Saturday, May 1st for the series rubber match. First pitch of the final regular season game is set for 2 PM.Â
