BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Belhaven baseball team came up short in their comeback attempt at LeTourneau University on Sunday and fell in the series finale 4-3 to the Yellowjackets.
In the game, the hosts jumped out to an early lead scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. LeTourneau would tack on a run in the 2Nd and take an early 3-0 lead over the Blazers.
In the top of the 5th inning the Blazers pulled a run back after
Nick Lucido reached on an error and
Hunter White scored from third base. The Yellowjackets would answer immediately though with a run of their own in the bottom of the 5th inning.
Trailing 4-1, Belhaven would look to mount a comeback late. The Blazers struck for a pair of runs in the 8th inning with the first coming on an RBI double from
Trip Benson that scored
Nick Lucido.
Nathan Herron followed that up with a base hit to score Benson from second.
'In the end, the late rally would come up short for the Blazers with LeTourneau taking the finale and the series.
At the plate, Belhaven was led by
Nick Lucido who finished the game 3-4 with a run scored. On the mound,
Will Swift threw all eight innings for the Blazers allowing four earned runs on eight hits and striking out six.
Belhaven will look to bounce back this weekend at home against East Texas Baptist University. First pitch of the series is set for 6 PM on Friday.
