JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University baseball team capped off a series win over the Sul Ross State University Lobos on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play. With the win the Blazers improve to 15-6 overall and 10-2 in conference play.
The Blazers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the Lobos after
Trip Benson and
Nathan Herron had RBI doubles in the bottom of the first inning. The Lobos answered with a three run shot in the second inning, but
Reed Bolton capitalized on a solo homer in the bottom half of the inning to bring the score to 3-3. Additionally, the Blazers score two more runs to extend their lead to 5-3 after two complete innings.
Evan Moore tacked on another run in the bottom of the third to give the Blazers a 6-3 advantage. Later on in the inning,
Reed Bolton hit a RBI triple that would advance him home after an error on the Lobos to bring the score to 8-3.
The Blazers continued to pile on the runs as
Nathan Herron had an 2-RBI triple to give Belhaven the commanding 10-3 lead heading into the fifth inning. Sul Ross added a run in the top of the fifth to narrow the score to 10-4. in the next two innings, the Blazers nor the Lobos could score a run as the Green and Gold headed into the bottom of the eighth inning with the 10-4 lead.
Nick Lucido scored the final run of the game for the Blazers in the eighth inning as the Blazers went on to defeat the Lobos 11-4.
Beau Louviere got the start and win on the mound for the Green and Gold as he threw 8.2 inning and struck out three batters.
Hunter White,
Kyle McLaughlin,
Nathan Herron, and
Reed Bolton had multiple hits for the Blazers in the contest. As a team, the Green and Gold finished the game with11 runs on 12 hits and no errors.Â
The Blazers will return to the field on Thursday, April 1 for a game against the University of the Ozarks Eagles in Clarksville, Ark. The action is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
