JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team were defeated by UT-Dallas 4-2 in their final regular season match of the season on Friday and now turn their attention to a second straight appearance in the ASC Tournament.
In the match which saw the Blazers face the top seed out of the ASC East Division, Belhaven struck first with
Sarah Chastain heading home a rebound off the crossbar that came via a
Kyla Shaw free kick just over five minutes into the contest.
The visitors would strike back just four minutes later as Sofia Munoz finished off a rebound in the box created from a Comets' free kick that redirected off Blazers' keeper
Lauren Knorr. UT-Dallas would take the lead on an 18th minute goal from Keely Fillman that saw a long ball from Munoz drop in the box which let Fillman cut inside on her right foot and put the Comets in front.
In the second half Sofia Munoz would add her second of the match and UT-Dallas' third when she was able to make a run forward and cut in on her left foot, sending a shot just under the crossbar. In the 69th minute, Sierra Foster scored directly from a Comets' free kick in close to put the visitors up 4-1 on the day.
Belhaven would pull one goal back late when
Ashley Langham was brought down in the box and earned her side a penalty. Langham's initial effort was saved but she finished off the rebound for her third goal of the season.
After dropping just their second game of the year, Belhaven now turns their focus to the ASC tournament which the Blazers qualified for in the second consecutive season. Belhaven earned the #3 seed out of the East Division and will travel to face the #2 seed from the West in the first round. Belhaven's opponents is still to be determined.
