PLANO, Texas - The Belhaven University Golf team competed against nine other teams over the weekend at the Texas Cup, hosted by UT Dallas.
Payton Tuttle led the way for the Blazers firing a two round score of 144 (72-72) at the Courses at Watters Creek. Tuttle finished the tournament in second place individually in a field of 67 total golfers.
Head Golf Coach
Tyler Freeman stated, "Really proud of the way Payton played this week. He made 11 birdies, so to say his putting was hot is an understatement. We were basically playing two different courses; that's how different the two 9's were at Watters Creek. Not to mention, it's Texas golf so there was plenty of wind to deal with." Coach Freeman also added, "At the end of Round 1, Tuttle carded 6 birdies en route to an even-par 72. That was good enough to put him in the mix at T-3, just two shots out of first place."
Senior
Payton Tuttle stated, "I made a couple clutch par putts coming down the stretch in Round 2 that really kept the momentum going for me. I knew I was in contention to win the tournament, so I was just focusing on making as many birdies as I could."
Will Justice finished with a score of 160 (75-85) for the Green and Gold while
Jake Clarke completed the tournament with a score of 179 at the Texas Cup.
Cody Anderson (181) and
Dawson Davis (181) rounded out the scoring for the Blazers .
The Blazers will return to the course on March 29th and 30th at the Carey Collegiate Classic in Hattiesbug, Miss.
