Box Score JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven volleyball team earned their first win of the season by defeating ETBU by a final score of 3-1 in the first match of the doubleheader. In the second match, the Blazers fell in straight sets to the Tigers to go 1-1 on the day. Belhaven moves to 1-7 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
MATCH ONE
The Tigers jumped out to a commanding 19- 8 lead in the opening set and would eventually take the first set by a final score of 25-13. The Blazers and Tigers exchanged points to open the second set as the Blazers and Tigers were knotted up at 13 apiece midway through the set. The Tigers jumped out front late in the set, but the Blazers scored five straight points to take the second set from the Tigers by a final score of 25-22. The Blazers continued to carry the momentum over to the third set, as the Green and Gold took the 15-5 lead midway through the third set. ETBU did not go down without a fight, but the Blazers went on to earn the 25-18 set victory over the Tigers. Belhaven now controls the match with the 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set. The Tigers lead early on in the fourth set, but the Blazers found an offensive spark to even the score at 10-10. The Blazers and Tigers exchanged the next seven points, but Belhaven held on to defeat the Tigers in the fourth set take the 25-23 set victory and earn their first win of the season by a final of 3-1.
Chelsea Creighton led the Blazers with 10 kills, while
Vivien Marquez posted seven kills and had a team-high three blocks in the contest.
Lilliana Marlowe had a team-high 13 digs and
Grace Eidson finished the night with four aces.
MATCH TWO
In the second match of the double header, the Blazers fell in straight sets to the Tigers as ETBU picked up the 3-0 victory. In the first set, ETBU jumped out to a 19-13 advantage over the Blazers and would eventually take the first set by a final score of 25-18. The Blazers held a 20-18 lead late in the second set, but the Tigers went on a 7-3 run to close out the set and earn the 25-23 set victory. The Tigers continued to play well to earn the 3-0 victory over the Blazers.
Emily Carroll and
Chelsea Creighton led the Blazers with six kills apiece, while
Caitlin Torok added five kills in the contest. Carroll also had two blocks in the contest, while
Grace Eidson finished the match with 12 assists.
The Blazers will return to the court on Tuesday, March 16 for a doubleheader against the Louisiana College Wildcats in Pineville, La. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
