JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball picked up a big 101-49 win on Senior Day over the Mississippi University for Women. The Saturday, non-conference matchup saw the Blazers honor five seniors for their dedication to the Belhaven program across their careers.
In the game, the Blazers jumped out to an early lead on the backs of their all senior starting lineup. Outscoring MUW 21-11 in the first quarter,
Mariah Collins contributed the Blazers' first nine points of the game.Â
In the second, the Blazers were able to start pulling away, outscoring the visitors 30-8 in the period. Belhaven shot 4-10 from three in the second period including a pair of made threes by
Shanda Pugh who finished 3-5 from behind the arc.Â
In the second half, the Blazers took advantage of their size advantage and started to created points in the paint. Senior
Destiny Johnson was a catalyst for the domination inside finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds, her second straight double-double and fifth of the season.Â
Late in the game
Sydney Martin was able to have an impact on both ends and finished the game with a full stat line. The Morrow, La. native finished with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Janae Collier cloesd out the game with the hot hand for three and finished the game with 16 points on 4-9 shooting from beyond the arc.Â
The Blazers return to Rugg Arena on March 4th when they host ETBU for a 5 PM tip.Â
