Blazers Suffer Road Loss at Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Belhaven University women's basketball team fell to the University of the Ozarks 85-75 on Saturday afternoon in the Blazers' final road contest in the regular season.

The Eagles got out to an early lead to begin the game, but the Blazers fought back to even the score to 12-12 at the 5:09 mark. The Blazers led for the first time in the contest after Ladedra Bryant's made a free throw midway through the first quarter. The Blazers continued to make shots and would go on to take the 21-17 lead to end the first quarter. The Ozarks regained the lead and held the lead for most of the quarter to make the score 40-34 at the halftime break. The Blazers cut the lead to just two points in the third quarter, but could never grab the lead again as the Eagles held onto the 60-55 lead going into the final frame. Belhaven chipped away at the lead early on, but the Eagles' offense heated up late to grab the 85-75 victory over the Blazers.

Four Blazers scored in double digits in the contest. Janae Collier led the Blazers with 13 points and shot 57 percent from the charity stripe. Destiny Johnson was one rebound away from a double-double, earning 11 points. Ladedra Bryant had 10 points in the contest, while Mariah Collins finished with 10 points, four steals, two assists, two rebounds, and shot 100 percent from the free throw line.

The Blazers return home to square off against the East Texas Baptist University Tigers in American Southwest Conference play on Thursday, February 18. The action is set to tip-off at 5:00 p.m.
