RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven University Men's Basketball team faced off against the University of Texas at Dallas Comets and the Comets walked away with a 91-55 victory on the hardwood.
The first period started off with the Blazers and Comets trading baskets back and forth, but the Comets took 13-9 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining. The Comets then went on a 21-10 scoring run to take a 34-19 lead with 4:37 left in the first period. A 13-7 scoring run by the Comets closed out the first period and extended the lead to 47-26 going into the locker rooms at halftime.
The second half saw the Blazers continue to fight, but the Comets opened the period with a 14-7 scoring run to extend the lead to 61-33 with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game. The Comets continued to maintain their lead as a 23-14 scoring run lead to the Comets leading 84-47 with 5:35 left in the second period. The Comets and Blazers then traded baskets for the remainder of the game to seal the 91-55 Comets victory.
The Blazers were led offensively by sophomore guard
Luke Couch with 18 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Junior guards
Joseph Jones and
Rance Champ added eight points each on the night.
The Blazers fall to 3-9 overall and 2-8 in American Southwest Conference play and will return to action on Saturday, February 13, with a road contest against the University of the Ozarks Eagles. The action is set to tip-off at 3 p.m.
