CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Belhaven University Men's Basketball team finished a weekend roadtrip with a contest against the University of the Ozarks Eagles on Saturday, February 13. The Blazers fell to the Eagles by a final of 101-78 on the hardwood.
The Blazers had a rought start to the contest as the Eagles went on a 14-4 scoring run in the opening minutes of the game and lead by that score with 13:25 left in the first period. The Blazers clawed away at the lead, but the Eagles stiffled the Blazers offense and went on a 17-7 scoring run to expand their lead to 31-11 with just over eight minutes remaining in the period. The Blazers finished out the period adding 14 points to their score while the Eagles added 16 increasing their lead to 47-25 going into the locker rooms at halftime.
The opening minutes of the second period saw the Blazers go on a 13-10 scoring run, but the Eagles maintained a 57-38 lead with 15:11 left in the game. The next few minutes once again saw the Blazers with a 19-16 scoring run over the Eagles; however, the Eagles still held a 73-57 lead with eight and a half minutes remaining. The final minutes of the game saw the Eagles outscore the Blazers, 28-21, to seal the 101-78 victory.
Offensively the Blazers were lead by sophomore guard
Matthew McMillan with 27 points with sophomore guard
Luke Couch adding 18 points, while junior guard
Joseph Jones also had 18 points and a team-high six rebounds. Junior guard
Austin Reed had nine points and senior forward
Brandon Phillips had six points to round out the scoring for the Blazers.Â
The Blazers fall to 3-10 overall and 2-9 in American Southwest Conference play and will return to action on Thursday, February 18, as they host the East Texas Baptist University Tigers. The action is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
