JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team dropped their season finale to the Piedmont Lions on Saturday by a final score of 8-1 at Smith-Wills Stadium.
The Piedmont offense got things going early on Saturday, a deviation from the first two games of the series. The Lions struck for a run in the first and tacked on five more in the second. The offensive outburst in the second inning came on the back of a 3-RBI triple by Kyle DeJesus and a 2-run home run from Jack Bartlewski. Piedmont extended their lead to 7-0 in the third inning before the Blazers turned to their bullpen.
In relief,
Will Swift delivered 3.2 shutout innings allowing just a pair of hits.
David Hall allowed just one run out of the bullpen and
Ethan McPherson pitched the final two innings of the game without allowing a run.
The Blazers lone run of the game came when
Nathan Herron scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of
Matthew Charbonnet.
Belhaven still took home the series win in their 2021 opener and saw some stellar work from the bullpen. Throughout the three game set, Belhaven relievers allowed just one run in 10.2 innings of work.
The Blazers return to the field on Friday, February 19th for a double header against Edgewood College and Centenary College. First pitch against Edgewood is set for 3PM.
