JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University men's basketball team picked up a 74-65 win over the McMurry University inside Rugg Arena to grab their first victory in ASC play. With the win, the Blazers move to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Blazers and War Hawks exchanged basked to open up the game, but the visitors went on a run to take the 21-11 lead at the 9:58 mark in the first half. Belhaven cut the lead to just six point with five minutes remaining in the first half.
Donovan Givens hit a three pointer at the buzzer at the end of the first half, but McMurry held on to 40-32 advantage going into the break.
The Blazers came out of halftime firing on all cylinders to even the score at 40-40 at the 18:20 mark of the final half. Belhaven took the lead the first time in the game when Matthew McMillin drilled a three pointer just before the media timeout. The score went back and forth over the next few possessions, but the Blazers took the lead with 4:22 remaining of regulation. Belhaven held strong and never gave the lead back to the War Hawks as the Blazers picked up the 74-65 victory over McMurry inside Rugg Arena.
Belhaven had four athletes that had double digit scoring. The Blazers were led by Donavan Givens who posted 17 points, six rebounds, shot 6-for-9 from the floor, and shot 57.1 from behind the arc.
Matthew McMillan and
Luke Couch both score 15 points in the contest, while
Arother Ratliff registered a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The Blazers will return to action on Thursday, December 9 against the LeTourneau University Yellowjackets in Longview, Texas. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
