JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven women's soccer team defeated the LeTourneau University Yellowjackets by a final score of 3-1 inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium on Thursday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play. With the win, the Blazers improve to 7-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.
In the first half, the Blazers and Yellowjackets exchanged possessions for the majority of the first half. The Green and Gold out shot LETU 10-2 in the first half, but the neither team could find the back of the net as the score was leveled 0-0 going into the halftime break.
Emily Easterling got the Blazers on the scoreboard first in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick goal. LeTourneau quickly responded four minutes later to even the score at 1-1. Belhaven went into attack mode and did not let the score be tied for long as Emily Easterling scored another goal for the Green and Goal to regain the 2-1 lead. Abby Goff added a goal in the 61st minute to give BU the 3-1 advantage. The Blazers held strong the rest of the match to seal the 3-1 victory for the Blazers.
As a team, the Blazers out shot the Yellowjackets 16-5 and had six shots on target. Emily Easterling led the Green and Gold with two goals on three shots. Abby Goff added a goal on two shots, while Lizbeth Eslava and Lauren Samford posted three shots in the contest. Julianne Wilson registered all 90 minutes in goal for Belhaven and tallied a save.
The Blazers will return to the field on Saturday, October 9 against the East Texas Baptist University Tigers inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium at 5:00 p.m.
