JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University volleyball team fell in straights set to the McMurry University Warhawks in American Southwest Conference play inside Rugg Arena.
In the first set, McMurry took a commanding 14-4 lead and dominated the rest of the opening set to take the 25-11 set victory over the Blazers.
In the next set, McMurry led early on, but the Green and Gold rallied back to tie the set up at 15 apiece midway through the second set. The Warhawks caught an offensive spark and scored 10 of the next 11 points to take the set 25-16.
In the final set, the Blazers fought and played their best set in the entire match. The Green and Gold led 10-9 early on in the set, but the Warhawks rallied and scored nine of the next 10 points to take the 18-11 advantage over the Blazers going into the latter part of the set. The Blazers had an opportunity to take the set late, but the Warhawks held on to take the match 3-0 and the set 25-23.
Emily Carroll led the Blazers with seven kills and two blocks for the Blazers.
Ellie Jones picked up five kills, two service aces, and two blocks in the contest.
Grace Eidson finished the night with 15 assists and three kills.
Lilliana Marlowe and
Avery Evans-Brooks tied for the team high in digs with 12.
The Blazers will return to action for their season finale on Saturday, October 30 against the Hardin Simmons University Cowgirls inside Rugg Arena. It will also be senior day on Saturday, so come out and support your Blazers. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
