JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University women's soccer team picked up an important American Southwest Conference victory defeating the UT Dallas Comets by a final score of 2-1 inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. With the win, the Blazers improve to 9-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in conference play.
Kyla Shaw got the Blazers on the scoreboard first when she found the back post to catch the keeper off of her line in the 25
th minute to give the Green and Gold the 1-0 advantage. The Blazers' defense held strong to keep the Comets off of the scoreboard in the first half.
Belhaven extended their lead in the 62
nd minute of play when
Anna Crane scored a goal to give the Blazers the 2-0 lead. The Comets chipped away at the lead when UTD found the back of the net in the 77
th minute to cut the lead to 2-1. Both teams had opportunities to score late, but the Blazers prevailed to take the 2-1 match victory.
Kyla Shaw led the Blazers with five shots with three being on-goal. Additionally, she scored a goal in the contest.
Anna Crane was the other goal scorer for the Green and Gold and posted three shots. GoalKeeper
Julianne Wilson played all 90 minutes in goal and collected two saves in the match. As a team, the Blazers outshot the Comets 15-8. The Blazers clinched postseason berth with the win over the University of the Ozarks Eagles this past Thursday evening.
The Blazers will return to action on Wednesday, October 27 with a non-conference matchup with Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
