JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team picked up an important 3-0 win over Ozarks on Thursday in a critical late-season ASC matchup.
In the match, the Blazers were able to dictate much of the play and tempo while creating the majority of the chances despite the Eagles registering the first two shots on target in the contest early in the first half. From that point, Belhaven was able to generate a number of shot attempts and shots on target before
Anna Crane opened the scoring in the 39th minute from a rebounded shot that she was able to head home.Â
Leading 1-0 at the half, the Blazers were able to turn on the pressure early in the second frame and were rewarded in the 68th minute when
Sybil Roberson was able to catch the goalkeeper out of position and chip it to the far post to double the Blazers' lead. Just five minutes later the Blazers added an insurance goal as
Laela Evans was able to pick up the ball in the attacking third and carry it into the box before calmly finishing at the far post.
In the match, Belhaven registered 19 shots to Ozarks 3 and produced 12 shots on target to the Eagles 2 attempts on goal.
Anna Crane,
Sybil Roberson and
Laela Evans scored the goals for Belhaven while
Hayley Ruckle and
Laela Evans each provided an assist.
With the win, the Blazers secure a spot in the ASC Postseason Tournament with one conference game to play. The Blazers return to action on Saturday when they host UT-Dallas at 2 PM in the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
