RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven University volleyball team was defeated at the hands of University of Texas at Dallas Comets in straight sets on Tuesday evening at the UTD Activity Center in American Southwest Conference play. With the loss, the Blazers move to 2-18 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
In the opening set of the match, the Blazers took the early 8-7 lead, but the Comets scored 10 of the next 12 points to earn the 17-10 advantage over the Blazers. UTD finished off the first set going on a 8-4 run to take the first set by a final 25-14.
After being down 4-1 in the second set, the Green and Gold caught an offensive spark and narrowed the lead to just one point. The Comets took the 14-11 advantage over the Blazers midway through the second set. The Blazers were unable to stop UTD from scoring and would go on to fall 25-12 in the second set.
The Blazers knew that the third set was a must win set. Belhaven took the early advantage over the Comets and both teams battled for the majority of the set. UTD would go on to take the set and match from the Blazers with a final score of 25-21.
Paige Broussard finished the evening with six kills, 11 digs, and one block.
Callista Moore and
Ellie Jones tallied three kills apiece for the Green and Gold, while
Caitlin Torok and
Ellie Jones finished the match with two kills. Additionally, Jones led the Blazers two two blocks in the match.
Grace Laukhuf posted eight assists and five digs for the Blazers.
Belhaven will return to action on Thursday, October 21 against the Howard Payne University Yellow Jacket in Brownwood, Texas. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
