AUSTIN, Texas – The Belhaven University Women's Soccer team fell 2-1 on the road to the Concordia Tornados on Thursday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.
The Blazers and Tornados went back and forth in the first half of the match as neither team could find the back of the net, despite the 14 shots that were attempted. The score was leveled at 0-0 going into the halftime break.
The Blazers took the lead after Kyla Shaw found the back of the net early on in the second half to give the Blazers the 1-0 lead. Concordia equalized the match in the 72nd minute to make the score 1-1 heading into the latter part of regulation. The Tornados scored an additional goal late in the match to make the final score 2-1.
Lauren Samford led the offensive attack for the Blazers with three shots, while Laela Evans Kyla Shaw, and Allie Fontenot had a pair of shots in the match. Shaw registered the only goal for the Blazers. GoalKeeper Julianne Wilson posted 90 minutes in goal and tallied six saves. As a team Belhaven finished the match with 10 shots with four being on-goal.
The Blazers will return to the field on Saturday, October 16 against the University of Mary Hardin- Baylor Cru in Belton, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
