MARSHALL, Texas - The Belhaven University Men's Basketball team their back-to-back roadtrip week with a contest against the Tigers of East Texas Baptist Univerity and the Tigers came away with 78-56 victory on the hardwood.
The first period began with an offensive flurry from the Tigers as they jumped out to an 11-2 lead over the first five minutes. The Blazers responded with an 8-2 scoring run to cut the lead to 13-10 with 12:31 remaining in the first period. However, the Tigers responded by closing out the period on a 22-14 scoring run to take a 35-24 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
The Blazers continued to battle in the second period, cutting the Tigers lead to 50-40 with 13:09 remaining in the game, but the Tigers responded with a 28-16 scoring run to close out the game and seal the 78-56 victory over the Blazers.
Sophomore guards
Luke Couch and
Matthew McMillan led the Blazers offense with 14 points each, while junior forward
Korri Edwards finished with eight points. Junior guard
Rance Champ added seven points and sophomore guard
Rian Shields tacked on six points on the night.
The Blazers fall 3-5 overall and 2-4 in American Southwest Conference play and will return to action as they host the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboys on Thursday, February 4, in Rugg Arena. The action is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
