LONGVIEW, Texas - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team fell late in a close contest as they visited LeTourneau on Thursday. In the tight matchup, a late go ahead basket scored by the hosts was the difference in the 92-90 game. In total, the game saw 21 lead changes and was tied at nine different occasions.
Belhaven got out to a hot start to open up the game with
Luke Couch scoring a quick 10 points in the first five minutes. The first half would be a largely back and forth affair with the YellowJackets able to inch out a two point lead going into the break.
The Blazers hit back midway through the second half and were able to take an eight point lead with just under two minutes left to play. Strong push back from LeTourneau though and a two point jumped by John Argue would put the hosts up 91-90 with 15 seconds left. The YellowJackets tacked on a free throw and held on for their fourth win of the season.
Belhaven's leading scorer on the night was
Luke Couch who scored a game high 36 points, his third 30-point performance in the first seven games of the season. Couch went 10-15 from the floor and 12-13 from the line while also recording four rebounds.
Korri Edwards scored a career high 21 points for the Blazers while adding eight rebounds in a strong performance.
With the loss, Belhaven falls to 3-4 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. The Blazers return to action Saturday at 3 PM when they face ETBU in Marshall, Texas.
