JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team fell at home on Saturday to the visiting UT-Dallas Comets by a final score of 103-83 in conference action.
The game was a back and forth affair in the early going with both teams able to trade baskets from the tip. Strong shooting from beyond the arc helped the Blazers lead for eight minutes of the opening frame before a late run put the Comets on top. Belhaven would push back before the end of the half forcing a pair of turnovers leading to baskets in transition that closed the gap to just one point.
In the first half,
Matthew McMillan shot 5-8 from three and led Belhaven with 15 points at the break.Â
In the second half, the Blazers scored a quick seven points and regained the lead but a pair of sustained scoring runs by the visitors opened up a lead that got as high as 25 points in the game.Â
UT-Dallas was led by Hunter Stevens who put up 25 points on 10-13 shooting and Michael Forster who finished the game with 23 points including going 4-8 from three.Â
The Blazers were led by top scorer
Luke Couch who finished the contest with a game-high 27 points and five rebounds.
Matthew McMillan set a new school record in three pointers made in a single game going 8-14 on his way to a career high 26 points.Â
With the loss the Blazers fall to 3-3 on the year and 2-2 in conference play. UT-Dallas now sits at 3-1 overall and 1-1 in ASC play.
The Blazers return to action on Thursday, January 28th when they head to Longview, Texas to take on LeTourneau University. Belhaven's next home contest is February 1st against Mississippi University for Women.Â
