JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University softball team earned their 600
th win as a program yesterday at the Division III Spring Games in Clermont, FL. The Blazers defeated Becker College 6-4 to earn the victory.
Head Softball Coach
Kevin Griffin stated, "I've been blessed to have been here through a large part of the success the program has had. It's all about the players who have invested themselves into putting and keeping Belhaven softball on the map nationally over the last ten years."
Over the years, Belhaven Softball has earned many accolades including: the GCAC Regular Season Champions in 2010 and was SSAC Conference Tournament Champions in 2011. They have also made appearances in the 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015 NAIA National Tournament. In 2016 and 2018, the Blazers made it to the NCCAA National Tournament and was the National Runner-up.
"I think back over the numerous national tournament runs that we have made in our NAIA and NCCAA days and those are special memories. No one can downplay what this program has accomplished. We've had numerous All-Americans, Conference player of the year awards, and conference and national player of the week awards. This is all possible because of the many coaches and players who believed in Belhaven University," said Coach Griffin.
Christina Jaques holds the all-time record for the highest career batting average at .464, while Brittney Webb is one of the best players to come out of the program. She set the NAIA record for stolen bases and won the coveted Golden Spikes Award. She holds the runs scored (233) record for Belhaven, along with hits (285), second in doubles (46), first in triples (27), and third in homeruns (22). Tiffany Ansley has the most RBI in Belhaven's history (142). Sarah Burns has the most wins (83) in the circle for the Green and Gold. She also hold records in ERA (1.49), appearances (128), games started (101), complete games (75), shutouts (26), innings pitched (713.0), and strikeouts (757).
Coach Griffin noted, "We've had some great players come through here and currently have some great ones in our program. The future continues to look bright with the outstanding group that we have assembled for the next few years,"
The Blazers will return to the field today at 3:00 p.m in a doubleheader against Penn State Burks and Penn State New Kensington in the Spring Games in Clermont, Fl.
