MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Baseball team fell in a double-header at a tournament hosted by Huntingdon College to open the season. Belhaven was beaten by Randolph-Macon College 9-3 in the first game of the day before falling to the hosts, Huntingdon, 2-0 in the nightcap.
In the first game of the day the Blazers gave up a first inning run to Randolph-Macon but took the lead in the bottom half of the second inning on a pair of runs scored on a single by
Nathan Herron. The Blazers would lead 2-1 through five innings but Randolph-Macon was able to put together a four-run sixth inning to regain the lead. Belhaven would answer with a run in the bottom half of the frame but Randolph-Macon would tack on four more in the eighth on their way to the win.
Belhaven would finish with three runs on eight hits, led by Justin Milan who would go 2-4 in the game with a run scored.
Hunter Sanford got the start on the mound for the Blazers and threw five innings with just one unearned run on four hits. Sanford would strikeout three and walk three.
Austin Howland took the loss for the Blazers surrendering two earned runs and four total runs in a third of an inning.
Belhaven faced the hosts, Huntingdon College, in the second game of the day. Huntingdon struck in the second inning after a bases loaded walk and then scored their second run in the bottom of the fourth on a steal of home.
The Blazers were scoreless in the second game of the day tallying four hits and an error.
Brett Sanchez was the starter for Belhaven and made it into the seventh inning allowing two earned runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked three on the night.
Belhaven will return to the field February 14th when they host Fontbonne University for the Blazers' home opener. The three-game series at Smith-Wills Stadium features a twin bill on Friday and a 1 PM game on Saturday. First pitch of the first game Friday is set for 4 PM.
