Keke Lyles Led Belhaven to third straight win with a 91-63 victory over McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – The Belhaven University women's basketball team won their third straight conference game, earning a 91-63 victory over the McMurry University War hawks in American Southwest Conference play. Win the win, the Blazers improve to 13-7 overall and 6-5 in conference play. Additionally, the Green and Gold currently sits in third place in the ASC East Division.

McMurry got off to a quick 5-0 lead, but the Blazers stormed back to even the score at 5 with 6:52 remaining in the first quarter. The Green and Gold never trailed the rest of the first quarter to make the score 23-17 at the end of the first quarter. The Blazers continued to shoot well from the floor in the second quarter to bring the score to 45-29 at the halftime break.

Belhaven came out of the break firing on all cylinders to extend the lead to 61-41 with 3:24 left in the third quarter. The Blazers closed the third quarter going on a 6-3 run to make the score 65-45. Belhaven continued to shine in the final quarter and extended the lead to a game-high 30 points with 2:40 left in the ball game. Belhaven went on to defeat McMurry by a final score of 91-63.

Keke Lyles led the Blazers with a career-high 31 points in the contest. Additionally, she went 11-for-20 from the field, grabbed five boards, and five steals. Janae Collier ended the game with 20 points, shot 55.5 percent from behind the arc and was 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. Mariah Collins added 12 points, had a team-high six steals, and tied for a team-high with seven boards. Ashlyn Horne tallied nine points, while Sydney Martin totaled eight points.

As a team, the Blazers shot 47 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from behind the arc. Belhaven also had 25 fast break points and 21 points off of turnovers.

The Blazers will return to action on Saturday as they remain in Abilene to play Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls. Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m.
