JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team rallied late against Rhodes College on Tuesday but came up short, falling 7-4 in the midweek home matchup.
Rhodes College visited Smith-Wills Stadium on Tuesday for a midweek matchup against the Blazers. The visitors opened the scoring in the second inning getting a pair of two-out runs across the plate. Rhodes tacked on four more in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead.
The Blazers started to climb back late scoring a trio of runs in the seventh off a three-run home run from
Justin Milam, his third of the year. In the eighth, Belhaven would add another run cutting the deficit to 6-4 heading to the ninth. Rhodes would add one more putting the Blazers down 7-4 in the bottom of the ninth. Belhaven loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to get any runs across the plate, losing the nonconference game.
Harris Coleman started on the mound for the Blazers throwing four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out three. Freshman
Beau Louviere pitched in relief throwing three and a third innings allowing just a run on one hit and racking up four strikeouts.
At the plate,
Justin Milam led the way going 1-4 with a three-run home run.
Nick Lucido finished 1-4 with an RBI on the day.
The Blazers return to ASC play this weekend, on the road at Mary Hardin-Baylor. First pitch of Game 1 on Friday is set for 2 PM.
