JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team fell 8-0 to Concordia University in their first ASC game of the season. Friday's game was the first of a three-game series between the Blazers and Tornados with a doubleheader set for Saturday.
Looking for a win in the first ASC game of the year,
Hunter Sanford took the mound for the Blazers to start the game against Concordia and got through two innings without allowing a run before the visitors stuck for three runs in the top half of the third inning. Concordia would tack on three more runs in the fourth thanks in part to a two-run single hit with bases loaded.
In the seventh, Concordia would add two more runs on a wild pitch and error giving them the 8-0 victory.
On the day, Belhaven finished with six hits as a team.
Justin Milam finished 1-4 with a double,
Julyan Urena went 1-3 with a double and
Nick Lucido went 1-4 with a double.
Hunter Sanford took the loss for the Blazers and falls to 1-1 on the season. He threw six innings, struck out eight while allowing seven runs.
Noah Whatley threw an inning, striking out a pair.
The Blazers will look to bounce back and chase a series win against Concordia on Saturday when they face the Tornados in a double-header. The first game is set for 11 AM.
