PINEVILLE, LA. - The Belhaven Univeristy Blazers Men's Basketball team took to the road to face off against the Louisiana College Wildcats on Saturday, February 1, as the Wildcats took an 85-66 victory on the hardwood over the Blazers.
The Wildcats opened the game on 20-9 scoring run to take a lead with 14 and a half minutes left in the first half. The Blazers continued to battle throughout the hafl, cutting the lead down to single digits, but ultimately the Wildcats went into the locker room at halftime with a 46-33 lead. The Blazers battled throughout the second half once again cutting the Wildcat lead to single digits, but could not overtake them as the Wildcats stretched the lead back out to double digits and maintained the lead throughout the game securing the 85-66 victory.
Senior guard
Brosnan Cooks and freshman guard
Luke Couch each had 19 points to lead the Blazers offense. Both players had four rebounds during the contest while Cooks added two assists and two steals with Couch having one assist and one steal. Junior forward
Brandon Phillips had 11 points, junior guard Joshua Roberts had five points, while freshman guard
Matthew McMillan and junior guard
AJ McFarland had three points each. Senior guards
Justin Jones,
Trai James, and
Rick Hodum had two points apiece to round out the scoring for the Blazers.
As a team, the Blazers scored 30 points in the paint, six points off turnovers, had 16 fast-break points, eight second-chance points, and got 19 points from their bench.
The Blazers fall to 8-11 overall and 5-5 in American Southwest Conference play and will return to action on the road as they face off against the McMurry University War Hawks on Thursday, February 6. The action is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
