BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team took to the road for their 2020-21 season opener facing off against East Texas Baptist University in non-conference action. The Blazers fell to the TIgers by a final of 95-65.
The Blazers took an early 6-5 lead with six minutes remaining in the first quarter; however, the Tigers then finished the quarter on an 11-0 scoring run to take a 16-6 lead. The Blazers battled back in the second quarter outscoring the Tigers 26-21 to close the gap to single digits and trailed 37-32 at halftime. Mariah Collins successful three-point attempt with 7:27 remaining in the third quarter; however, the Tigers expanded the lead with a 28-9 to close out the quarter and hold a 68-46 lead. The Blazers added 19 points in the fourth quarter with the Tigers tacking on 27 to end the game with a final of 95-65.
Freshman guard
Lilli Maggio led the Blazers with 15 points and four steals, while
Mariah Collins added 12 points. Junior forward
Kei Honey and senior forward
Sydney Martin had nine points each.
The Blazers will return to action tomorrow as they face off against UT-Dallas in non-conference action in Birmingham, Alabama. The action is set to tip-off at 7 p.m.
