Blazers Roll to 102-70 Win over Louisiana College

JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University women's basketball team dominated Louisiana College by a final score of 102-70 in American Southwest Conference play. With the win, the Blazers improve to 11-7 and 4-5 in conference.

The Blazers controlled the game from the opening tip as they we on a 10-4 run to open the game. Both teams exchanged shots for the next few minutes until the Blazers broke out and went on a 13-0 run to make the score 29-13 with 1:00 remaining in the first quarter. LC scored the next five points in the quarter to bring the score to 29-18 going into the second quarter. The Wildcats and the Green and Gold went back and forth in the second frame, but the Blazers went on to outscore LC 14-13 to make the score 43-31 at the halftime break.

The Green and Gold caught an offensive spark in the third quarter by extending the lead to 28 points with 3:09 remaining in the quarter. The Wildcats went on a 7-3 run in the final three minutes of the third quarter to make the score 71-47 going into the final frame. The Blazers continued to dominate the floor and make buckets in the fourth quarter to defeat the Louisiana College Wildcats by a final score of 102-70.

 There were four Blazers that earned double-digit points in this contest. Peyton Papenburg led the way with 23 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Keke Lyles was right behind her with 22 points and Madison Klein had a season high of 18 points making six three pointers. Janae Collier earned 10 points and five rebounds, while Destiny Johnson tallied nine points. Sydney Martin and Essence Lambert each posted six points in the contest, while Mariah Collins and Ashlyn Horne rounded out the scoring for the Green and Gold with four points.

As a team, the Blazers shot 40 percent from the field and 36 percent behind the arc. The Blazers etched their name in the record book with most 3 point attempts in a game with 50.BU also shot 76 percent from the charity stripe.

The Blazers will return to action on Saturday, February 1 against Louisiana College in Pineville, La. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
