JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team fell 85-74 at home on Thursday against LeTourneau University.
The Blazers got off to a cold start going two for their first eleven shots and trailed 20-14 at the end of the first quarter. Belhaven would heat up in the second quarter going on a 19-0 run to take a 33-24 lead with 2:38 remaining in the half. They maintained their lead for the remainder of the half up 40-32 going into the break.
In the second half the visitors would open up with an 8-0 run to regain the lead. Belhaven would fight from behind the rest of the way coming up short.
Keke Lyles led the Blazers in scoring with 22 points on 7-17 shooting to go along with six steals.
Peyton Papenburg recorded a double-double scoring 20 points and racking up 12 rebounds, a team high.
Mariah Collins finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Belhaven.
As a team, the Blazers shot 32.9% from the field and 27.6% from three. Belhaven went 20-30 from the free throw line and forced 25 turnovers. The Blazers move to 10-6 overall and 3-4 in conference with the loss.Â
Belhaven will look to bounce back Saturday, January 25th when they host East Texas Baptist University. Tip against the Tigers is set for 1 PM.
