RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team fell on the road to UT Dallas on Saturday by a 67-60 final score.
The Comets of UT Dallas got out to an early 11-2 lead in the first quarter before a 16-5 run by the Blazers gave Belhaven the lead to close out the quarter. The teams would trade baskets in the second quarter with Belhaven maintaining their lead until the Comets were able to put together a few scoring possessions to take a 25-24 lead with 4:29 remaining in the half. After a short UT Dallas run,
Sydney Martin hit a layup late in the half to pull the Blazers within a possession going into the half.
Belhaven would pull level with 2:28 remaining in the third quarter before a late surge by the Comets put the Blazers down 48-42 heading into the final period. In the fourth, UT Dallas would pull away early extending their lead to 10 points with six minutes remaining. Belhaven would look to challenge late but would come up short falling 67-60 in the ASC game.
The Blazers were led by
Keke Lyles who finished with 20 points and four steals on 6-11 shooting.
Peyton Papenburg scored 18 and
Janae Collier finished with a double-double scoring 11 points and recording 10 rebounds.
With the loss, Belhaven falls to 10-5 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. They'll look to bounce back Thursday, January 23rd when they host LeTourneau Univesity at 5:30 PM, inside Rugg Arena.
