RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team fell to UT Dallas on Saturday in a close 68-63 final.
On the road at UT Dallas, the Blazers got off to an even start, keeping pace with the hosts for much of the first half before the Comets opened up a seven point lead with just under nine minutes to go. Belhaven would close the gap though and pull within two, trailing 31-29 going into halftime.
In the second half, UT Dallas would extend their lead back out to seven points but the Blazers would rally taking a 44-43 lead with 10 minutes to go in the game. Belhaven would fight to keep it a one possession game most of the remainder of the half until a late run from the hosts put the Blazers down nine points with under a minute to play. Belhaven would hit late shots but could not close the gap before time ran out and fell 68-63 in the contest.
The Blazers shot 40% from the field on the afternoon and 28.6% from beyond the arc. Belhaven's bench would outscore the hosts 21-9 and as a team, the Blazers went 17-25 from the free throw line.
Freshman
Luke Couch continued his strong start to conference play leading Belhaven with 24 points on 8-13 shooting.
Ryan Dupree led the Blazers second unit much of the game finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds on the afternoon.
Belhaven will look to rebound Thursday, January 23rd when they host LeTourneau University at Rugg Arena. Tip off in the conference game is set for 7:30 PM.
