JACKSON, Miss.– The Belhaven University women's soccer team secured the 1-0 victory over Hendrix College on Friday evening at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the Green and Gold earned the first goal of the match after
Ashley Langham scored on a penalty kick in the 69
thminute to bring the score to 1-0.
After Langham's hat trick on Wednesday and the penalty kick in tonight's match, the junior finished the week with four goals and has a team-high five goals in the early season.
Belhaven's defense held strong until the final whistle, as the Blazers defeated the Warriors by a final score of 1-0. Belhaven improves to 3-1 on the season.
The Blazers finished the match outshooting the Warriors 11 to 7, while only holding the Hendrix to three shots in the second half.
Emily Malcom and
Ashley Langham each had three shots in the contest.
Kendall Cockayne registered two shots, while
Jennifer Hosey,
Peyton Papenburg and Sybil Robertson tallied a shot in the match.
Georgia Jordan was phenomenal in-goal as she saved a penalty kick from Hagan Griffin the 57
thminute. Additionally, she recorded 5 saves on the evening.
The Blazers will return to the field on Thursday, September 12 to face off against Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Ala. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
