JACKSON, Miss.– The Belhaven volleyball team fell to Huntingdon College in five-sets on Thursday afternoon inside Rugg Arena.
In the second five set match of the season, the Hawks had an early 10-5 advantage in the first set before the Green and Gold rallied back to even the score at 13 apiece. The score went back and forth for the rest of the set until the hawks scored eight of the last nine points in the first set to make the score 25-20 to gain the 1-0 lead.
The Green and Gold held the lead for the majority of the second set until Huntingdon jumped ahead 20-18. Belhaven fought back from the deficit to take the second set 25-23 and even the match up at 1-1.
The Blazers captured the victory in the third set by a final set score of 25-19, before the Hawks came from behind to secure the fourth set and force a fifth set. The Blazers and Hawks fought to the final whistle, but Huntingdon went on to defeat Belhaven by a final score of 3-2.
Chelsea Creighton led the Blazers with 11 kills, while
Vivien Marquez registered nine kills, two service aces, and two blocks.
Grace Laukhuf had team-high four aces while tallying 11assists, and seven digs. Senior
Evelyn Parker added four blocks and six kills in the contest.
Grace Eidson led the assists' category with 17, while
Sydney McEachern led the team with 15 digs.
The Blazers return to action on Sept. 6
th to face off against Central Baptist College and the University of Dallas at 3 p.m and 7p.m. respectively in the Belhaven/Millsaps Invitational inside Rugg Arena.
