Montgomery, Ala. - The
Belhaven Blazers Women's Soccer team started their week of games on the road against the Huntingdon College Hawks and once again found themselves in a game that went into double overtime; however, this game ultimately went in favor of the Blazers as they return home with a 3-2 victory.
Huntingdon took an early lead late in the first half as they scored in the 36th minute on an unassisted goal by Abigail Brown; however, the lead was short-lived as junior midfielder
Ashley Langham knotted up the game with her first of three goals in the 41st minute courtesy of an own goal by Huntingdon. The score remained tied at 1 going into the halftime break.
The Hawks regained the lead in the 66th minute as Erin Cembrale scored off a header from Faithe Korponay, but once again the Blazers tied the game late in the second half as Langham found the back of the net in the 83rd minute courtesy of a cornerkick taken by junior midfielder
Pepper Ann Filbert and the Blazers held strong to finish out the half and send the game into overtime.
The Blazers outshot the Hawks in the first overtime period, but with neither team finding a score after 100 minutes the game went into a second overtime, but the period did not last long as Langham found the net in the 102nd minute, giving her the hat trick goal and securing the 3-2 victory for the Blazers.
The Blazers improve to 2-1 on the season and return to action on Friday, September 6, as they host the Warriors of Hendrix College. The match is set for a 5 p.m., kickoff inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
