MARSHALL, Texas – The Belhaven volleyball team played their final two matches in the ASC Crossover and was unable to secure a victory in either match on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers fell 3-1 to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Cru and came up short against Concordia by a final of 3-0. The Green and Gold dropped to 7-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
In the opening match of the day, the Green and Gold failed to gain any momentum in the first set as the Cru took the 25-9 set victory. The Blazers were unable to capture the second set victory as the Cru won 25-9. In the third set, the Blazers were out for revenge as it took extra points to defeat UMHB 27-25 to force a fourth set. In the fourth ser, the Green and Gold kept it close until the Cru tallied seven of the final nine points of the set to claim the set victory and the match.
Chelsea Creighton led the Blazers with 12 kills, while
Callista Moore posted eight kills, one ace and nine digs.
Sydney McEachern led the Green and Gold in digs with 18 and
Kristin Fogan tallied 12 and had 3 aces.
Grace Eidson was the assists leader for Belhaven with 14 and earned an ace.
In the final match of the day, the Blazers took on Concordia and fell in straight sets. The Blazers fought hard in the first set, but CTX came out on top with a final score of 25-20. The Tornados pulled away from the Blazers in the second set early on and could never recover, falling in the second set 25-16. Concordia was dominate in the third set and won the set 25-7 and the match 3-0.
Callista Moore posted six kills and eight digs, while
Vivien Marquez also tallied six kills and added the only two aces for the Blazers in the match.
Evelyn Parker had the only three blocks for BU, while
Sydney McEachern tallied 12 digs to lead the Blazers.
The Blazers will return home to take on East Texas Baptist University Tigers on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m. inside Rugg Arena.
