PINEVILLE, La. - The Blazers volleyball team picked up a big win on Friday night defeating Louisiana College for their first American Southwest Conference win of the season.
The match was a back and forth affair and the Blazers got off to a hot start winning the first set by a final score of 25-22. Louisiana College bounced back to win the second set 26-24 before Belhaven went up two sets to one in a dominant 25-15 third set. The Wildcats were able to even the match up at two sets apiece in a 28-26 fourth set before Belhaven closed out the match and the win in the fifth set with a final score of 15-13.
Callista Moore was dominant for the Blazers racking up 18 kills, a team high on the night. Freshman
Vivien Marquez followed Moore with eight kills.
Grace Eidson led Belhaven on the night with 19 assists and
Grace Laukhuf had 12 assists of her own.
Sydney McEachern posted a team high 29 digs against the Wildcats. Both Moore and McEachern set single game highs for Belhaven with their performances on Friday night.
With the win, Belhaven moves to 5-7 on the season and 1-2 in ASC play. The Blazers will look to build on the win this Tuesday, September 24th when they travel to Columbus, Miss. to take on Mississippi University for Women in a nonconference match.
